Parent-Child Agreement (Indiana)

Parent-Child Agreement Instructions:

In the opening paragraph enter the date as day, month, then year. Next enter the parent’s name and then the child’s name.

A note to remember, if there are any sections provided in the Agreement that you do not want to apply or wish to use at this time enter not appliable and move on to the next section with your child.

Section I, Paragraph 1 – Household Chores and Activities:  Enter any household chores or activities that are expected of the child. For example, cleaning up your toys, making your bed daily, or taking out the garbage. Try to be as specific as possible here.

Next enter the rewards or privileges that the child will be given once those chores are completed. You can also limit the reward to be weekly, biweekly, or monthly. State so here.  In the following paragraph if the child does not complete the given chores or activities enter the consequences here. For example, there will be no screen time for 3 days, etc.…

Section I, Paragraph 2 – Behavior: Type in any behaviors that you expect from the child. For example, playing nicely with younger siblings, not fighting with siblings, or treating elders with respect, etc.…

Next enter any rewards or privileges, and in the following paragraph enter any consequences for the lack of the behavior being worked on.

Section I, Paragraph 3 – Homework: Here you can state any rules that will be followed when doing homework. For example, all homework will be done neatly, or Child will check to make sure that they have all the materials needed for homework that night before leaving school, or homework will be done in specific location in the house and state that location, or child will take a 5 minute break if they feel frustrated when doing homework, etc.…. You may also include in this section anything that the Parent agrees to do when doing homework, for example Parent agrees to check over the Child’s homework or help clarify anything, or provide any necessary supplies etc.… This section allows you to focus on any area that may be hard for your child, so that when they do complete the task a reward or privilege will be earned by them.

Next enter any rewards or privileges to be awarded and the time frame for the reward to be earned, and in the following paragraph enter any consequences for the not completing homework.

Section I, Paragraph 4 – Curfew: In this section you can set the hours for curfew for weeknights, as well as weekends. Then enter the reward or privileges awarded if curfew is kept for as many nights as you required. In the following paragraph enter the consequences if curfew is not kept.

Section I, Paragraph 5 – Friends/Social Activities: Here you can set any rules or guidelines for when your Child is out with friends and then state any rewards/privileges to be given if those guidelines are kept, as well as stating the consequences if they are not met.

Remember if any section in the Agreement does not apply to you and your child, for example your child is young and will not be going out with friends, enter not applicable in that section and move on.

Section I, Paragraph 6 – Screentime:  Here you can limit the amount of screentime your child will have, you can customize it to be for a week at a time, for a day or whatever will work best for your child.

Next enter the reward or privileges to be given if the child keeps the agreement regarding screentime, as well as the consequences if not.

Remember: If your Child has a cell phone or is a teenager, it may be best to use our Cell Phone Agreement that is provided to you separately on the site, as well as the Social Media Use Agreement.

Section I, Paragraph 7 – Additional Terms:  In this section, we allow you to customize the Agreement with anything that you as the parent, after discussing it with your child, deem important to include in this agreement.

Section II:  We outline some parental obligations to the child. If there are other details that you would like to add in order tailor your agreement to your specific relationship with your child, you can do so in Section VI where we provide you with space to include any other terms that you deem important.

Section III: We outline some Child obligations and expectations. Again, if there is something that you would like to add to tailor it to your specific relationship you can do so in Section VI.

Section IV: We state that from time to time, the parent and child will sit together and may make any necessary modifications. We also state that those modifications will be in writing and signed by both the parent and the child, in this way we are reinforcing the importance your relationship and allowing the child to learn the importance of keeping their word and negotiation skills as well.

Section V:  States that this is the agreement that the parties have agreed to.

Section VI: We provide you with space to include any additional terms that are specific to your parent-child relationship and that you deem important to include.

Section VII: This is the signature section; each party will sign the agreement and print their name to make the agreement binding.
